Marshal of France in 1676, Viceroy of New France (Canada), Governor - Letter signed with 7 autographed words from NIMÈGUE (Netherlands) on October 29, 1676. 2 pages in-4° : "Sir. The honesty and the obliging way in which the Jesuit Father DAEMIS reported to me that you had received the prayer that I had requested to make to you, for the tonsure of a gentleman who has been with me for 14 or 15 years, obliges me to make my thanks to you, and as I approve and enter strongly into the reasons that you gave him not to come here; I send you the aforementioned gentleman to receive from you, if it pleases you, the tonsure; His name is Louis CHEVALIER of the Diocese of SENS, 28 years old, born Catholic of legitimate marriage, and of Catholic parents, as you will see from his baptismal extract which he brings to you and his dimissory from the Archbishop of SENS to receive the said Tonsure; I will be obliged to you for the grace which you will make; It is to enjoy a simple benefit which I procure for him in my Government of MAËSTRICHT.
