NANCY (Duchy of Lorraine). 1752. BOTANY. "Notice to the public, It is made known that in execution of Article XXV of the Statutes given to the Doctors of NANCY, & to second the laudable intentions of the King (STANISLAS LESZCZYNSKI), Mr. MARQUET Councillor and Dean of the ROYAL COLLEGE, will begin next Monday, July 3, the demonstration of the Plants of the Country, & will continue every Monday of each week, during the beautiful season. Consequently the curious are invited to be in his house, rue du Point du Jour, at 7 o'clock in the morning. Permit to print and post this June 27, 1752." Poster (22 x 27 cm). François Nicolas MARQUET (Nancy 1687 - Nancy 1759) Doctor and Botanist, graduated from Pont-à-Mousson. The Duke Leopold gave him the title of Court Physician and a plot of land to create a botanical garden. MARQUET travelled all over Lorraine and wrote a catalog of the plants growing in this region. Under King STANISLAS I, he became the Dean of the College of Medicine in NANCY. MARQUET wrote many works including a "Practical and Modern Medicine."
