BORDEAUX 1790. REVOLUTION. DISSOLUTION OF THE RELIGIOUS ORDERS. Autograph letter signed by Brother Ange MASSOTTE Discalced Carmelite, of BORDEAUX, Chartrain 24 May 1790. Addressed to the Abbot ROVIRA Canon of the Cathedral, Grand Vicar, and Royal Professor of Royal Professor of Theology in the University of PERPIGNAN. 2pp in-4°, wax seal at the opening: "My dear and respectable Canon. In accordance with his promise, the Banker of Avignon wrote to Rome to make count 1260 Livres to regulate a business. He can consequently burn the Bill of Exchange. He asks him to do him another money service. He gives news of Bordeaux: "The Municipality made quietly and with all honesty the inventory of all the religious Communities of men (to confiscate them in National property). One will proceed shortly to that of the Daughters, Chapters, Secular Communities & C. You understand that my statement was as I made it clear to you in my last letter. I will add that "in our two communities here we were all of the same sentiment. We have declared that we want to persevere with the grace of God until death. It must be a long time before all the clergy have made a definitive decision. (They refuse to take the Oath to the Civil Constitution of the Civil Constitution of the Clergy). I desire very much in my particular to know our fate... You know that fifteen hundred volunteers from here left since Monday... to go to restore order in Montauban."
