Abbé SICARD (Roch Ambroise Cucurron dit)
Priest, Famous teacher of the Deaf and Dumb, succeeded in 1789 to the Abbé de l'ÉPÉE (1742-1822) - Letter A.S. L'ABBÉ SICARD, "Director of the Institution of the Deaf and Dumb; administrator of the Hospices de Bienfaisance; member of the Institute of France and of several Academies; Canon of the Church of PARIS." (Printed letterhead) - Paris January 28, 1816, to a Friend. 1p in-8° : "I will not miss Tuesday's dinner, kind and dear friend. I am not so happy for the desire you show me for my Carriage, and you will find the reason very good. I have not yet made my New Year's visits, but yesterday I made a large part of them, from the morning until the evening, which tired my old horse a lot. And tomorrow, Monday, I will try to do the rest. You see that this poor horse, already so tired of yesterday's races, and that I will tire again tomorrow, needs rest. But if on Tuesday, or any other day of the week we are starting, my carriage is needed, I hope you will be as frank as I am and ask me for the carriage..."
