SUBERVIE (Jacques-Gervais)
General of Empire, Deputy of GERS, Minister of War in 1848, Deputy of EURE-ET-LOIR in 1848. Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor 1849, (Lectoure/ Gers 1776 - 1856) - Letter A.S. General SUBERVIE Representative of EURE ET LOIR. PARIS June 12, 1849 - He protests energetically against the sending of troops to Italy. "Mr. Editor (of the Monitor). Held up in bed for four days, I was unable to attend yesterday's session of the Legislative Assembly. If it had been possible for me to go there, I would have voted with my friends against the agenda proposed on the occasion of the Affairs of ROME. I will be part of the Commission... to deliberate on the request for credit made by the Government to operate a transport of troops on the coasts of Italy; and in spite of the positive and solemn assurance which was given to us that our intervention had no other goal than to preserve the French influence, and to guarantee liberty against the attacks of the Austrians who were marching on Rome, I remained convinced that we were deceived, and that the expedition would be directed against the Roman people: Thus when Jules FAVRE went up to the rostrum to give the reading of his report, I protested by my vote against its conclusions... I am one of these old soldiers who in the year IV of the Republic carried freedom to Italy, and who later defended it on the Fields of MARENGO. Today I can only groan over the misfortunes of Rome, and protest against the attacks on her freedom." 1p in-8°.
