MARNE, THE CATHEDRAL OF REIMS MURDERED. Letter... - Lot 482 - Vermot et Associés
MARNE, THE CATHEDRAL OF REIMS MURDERED. Letter of Paul FORT, Poet (Reims/ Marne 1872-1960) - Beautiful autograph letter signed, to Mr. D. DAUDET, August 26, 1915 (in full War 1914/1918), as a REMEMBER, about the destruction of the Cathedral of REIMS. 2 Pages in-8°: "Several friends of Letters who are very particularly interested in my Bulletin of war: "Poem of France", advise me to communicate it to you, ... I write with fever, I write with all my faith, "Avenging Songs" on this terrible and sublime war. Alas! "Avenger" that it is in my power, it is for me a moral necessity: I am Rémois, born right in front of the murdered Cathedral, what gives me a little grace of state to castigate the Germans, these destroyers of Senlis, Arras and Louvain. Will you do me the very great honor, dear Sir, by reading these few songs gathered in these fascicles to judge if I accomplished my duty of French Poet, at the hour when the inspiration pushing me, and the indignation also, I believed to have to raise the voice?..."
