DIOSCORIDE: The six books of Pedacion Dioscoride d' Anazarbe of the medicinal matter, translated from Latin into French. (spine rebacked in imitation, moisture marks on 3 cm. at the top of the pages of the whole volume, the first 6 with a small strip of paper in reinforcement, small light wetness on qq. leaves and two tears without lack at the bottom of pages 261 and 263). Edition illustrated with 375 figures of medicinal plants and animals in the text. This woodcut suite was engraved by Clément Boussy, based on the illustrations in Fuchs' work. Second edition of this translation by Martin Mathée, physician. He added comments and, as he states in the dedication to the cardinal of Lorraine, he was inspired by the comments of Mattioli. At the end: "Description of several simple not mentioned by Dioscorides, with their faculties singular virtues", by Martin Mathée. Shared edition. There are copies in the name of Thibaud Payen; others in that of Macé Bonhomme. In all cases, this volume was printed by Denise Barbou, the widow of Balthazar Arnoullet. A fine copy well preserved in its original binding with contemporary marginal annotations of the work.
