At the beginning of this work, on the title page of the first volume, the author's title (1754 - 1817) is indicated as "former officer of Monsieur, Comte de Provence, attached to the Extraordinaries of the Royal Houses, and at present Restaurateur, rue de Richelieu, n° 26, at the great Tavern of London". Beauvilliers is recognized, today, as the inventor of the first luxury restaurant in 1782, which was aimed at a "rich and distinguished" clientele! 1192 recipes that made the delights of the Empire. Our copy is the third edition, which includes the Supplement and bears the handwritten signature of the author's widow. Also complete with the 9 folding plates and the two different frontispieces for each volume. Beautiful presentation without a late 19th century binding. The first two editions (1814 and 1816) are more easily encountered. RARE. Good condition; spine and spine ends restored, corners rubbed; scattered foxing.
