ROBUCHON, Joël: Festival of French cuisine... - Lot 210 - Vermot et Associés
ROBUCHON, Joël: Festival of French cuisine by Joël Robuchon. Menu - Gala menu. Hotel - Restaurant Okura - Tokyo - Japan. Tokyo, ed. Hotel Okura, n.d. (late 90's, early 2000's), in-folio (29 x 42 cm), softback illustrated in color with a reproduction of a "Belle Epoque" poster by Mucha on a light brown-green background, title in black, on the 4th cover "Hotel Okura" in black, 1 sheet (56 x 42 cm), with a copy of the "Hotel Okura" in black. "Okura Hotel" in black, 1 sheet (56,5 x 41,5 cm) of cream soft cardboard folded in two with text in French in green color and text in Japanese in black color, prices in yen, on the top of the third page a glued cardboard with two suggestions of dishes with prices. The Okura Hotel was built in the 60's in Tokyo. It is thanks to its chef, Masakichi Ono, that this restaurant and hotel was the biggest and most respected in Japan and even in the world. In terms of the building, it is a masterpiece of the 60s. It was the setting for a James Bond movie, "On ne vit que deux fois" in 1967. The greatest French chefs such as Paul Bocuse and Joël Robuchon honored France and Japan with their presence for prestigious dinners and festivals, as our "menu" indicates! The Okura Hotel was destroyed in 2015 to make way for a sumptuous establishment that has become one of the best in the world. It should also be noted that the French chef Frederic Simonin participated in the "gastronomic fortnight" in 2011 and 2012 in this same hotel. Joël Robuchon, who died on August 6, 2018, opened his first restaurant in Japan, in Tokyo, in 1989, the "Taillevent-Robuchon" which was followed by many others. The Japanese saw him as an absolute "god" of French cuisine! I could not find the date of this "festival of French cuisine", which should have taken place between 1990 and 2000! This "object of remembrance" brings together two departed people, the great chef Joël Robuchon and one of the most beautiful hotels in the world! It is to be considered as a "historical souvenir"! This menu - card was printed only for the guests of this gala (inauguration or closing?), in very small numbers and is therefore Rare. Very good condition; the cardboard is very slightly faded at the edges but the cardboard with the menu and the card is in very good condition.
