JULLIEN, André: Topography of all the known... - Lot 272 - Vermot et Associés
JULLIEN, André: Topography of all the known vineyards containing their geographical position, the indication of the kind and quality of the products of each vintage, the places where the loads and the main trade of wines are made, the name and capacity of the barrels and measures in use, the means of transport ordinarily employed, the tariffs of the customs of France and foreign countries, etc...Paris, Librairie d'Agriculture et d'Horticulture de Mme Ve Bouchard-Huzard, 1866, fifth edition revised, corrected and enlarged by Charles Edouard Jullien, in-8, black half-chagrin, full green "chagrined" percaline boards, title and author gilded on spine, period binding, XII - 567 - (1) pp., Table of chapters, "Rapport fait à l'Académie des Sciences de l'Institut de France sur la 3e édition", "Observations préliminaires de la 3e édition - Classification des vins", Vocabulaire des termes techniques, "Notice topographique sur les vignobles de l'Antiquité", Appendix, Table générale des matières, ex-libris de E. Lemoine (name and a small bottle in green) and an illegible in black ink on page 1, many highlights and comments in margins in black ink. Fifth edition of this great "classic" of oenology, whose original edition dates from 1816. This book is especially interesting because of the author's knowledge of foreign vineyards: Portugal, Africa, the Rhine and Moselle rivers, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, California, Chile, Syria and Hungary. An article dedicated to a Chinese brandy! The author is best known for his book "Le Manuel du sommelier ...". It seems that this edition is the last one in the 19th century! Very RARE. Very good condition of the period binding; good condition of the paper with some light scattered foxing.
