Valentine de SAINTE-ALDEGONDE, Duchess of... - Lot 435 - Vermot et Associés
Valentine de SAINTE-ALDEGONDE, Duchess of DINO (1820-1891). Autograph letter (unsigned) written by Pauline de TALLEYRAND-PÉRIGORD, Marquise de CASTELLANE (1820-1890), July 11, 1873, to Baron LOUIS, concerning Valentine, Duchess of DINO: "My dear Louis. You will read with interest the following details, Elisabeth (her daughter, Countess Hans d'Oppersdoff) wanted to accompany her mother to my home. Clementine (her daughter, Countess Alexander Orlovski) ran to join them in Breslau to come with them to GÜNTHERSDORF. It is escorted by her three children that Valentine put down on the 8th in Hiteitz, where spontaneously my guards had decorated the station. The Clergy and two communicants, the higher agents were there to receive them... When she arrived at the Castle people awaited her downstairs,... the poor woman in the middle of sobs addressed me touching words... Valentine made very well the honors, in spite of the lack of language; She has much dignity in the maintenance. She remained in some respects a real child" (It seems that the letter continues). The letter had been given by Mr Joseph REINACH to the Countess of CASTELLANE in 1921.
