RANAVALONA III. RAZAFINDRAHETY (1861-1917),... - Lot 456 - Vermot et Associés
RANAVALONA III. RAZAFINDRAHETY (1861-1917), Queen of MADAGASCAR (1883-1897) Daughter of Andriantsimianatra and Princess Raketaka, she was the great-granddaughter of King Andrianampoinimerina as well as the great-niece of King Radama I and Queen Ranavalona I. October 1 was the day of the capture of Tananarive. The same day, General Duchesne imposed the treaty confirming the French protectorate. Appointed Resident General of the island of Madagascar, General Galliéni deposed the Queen on February 28, 1897, after a violent insurrection that was triggered in August 1896; this led the French government to proceed with the annexation of the island. General Galliéni was appointed governor. He stayed there for about ten years. The Queen was sent to Reunion and then to Algiers - Text written from Isarahafatra Palace on October 1, 1895 with the autograph signature of Queen Ranavalomansaka III, co-signed by her first minister Rainilaiarivony (also her husband). She ratified the treaty and the protocol annexed signed by General Duchesne, commander of the expeditionary corps and the Malagasy plenipotentiaries. 1 page in-8°.
