Cycling/Brittany/Corre/Aluminium/Tour de... - Lot 72 - Vermot et Associés
Cycling/Brittany/Corre/Aluminium/Tour de France. Amazing poster with high-flying cyclist, map of France, ultra-light machine, and two elegant testers: "Cycles Aluminium, Corre 5012km , 8 kg500; chez G.Rupalley, 36 av de Wagram" by T.Deville. Imprimerie Chaix, 20 rue Bergère. In 1895, two riders, Théophile Joyeux de Castillonnes (1865-1938), and the Breton Jean Corre (1864-1915), covered a solo Tour de France on their own, one on Acatène, the other, here, on Aluminium. Both were climbers, engravers and long-distance racers. In less than 20 days, the deal was in the bag!!! and Deville could celebrate the feat with this Tartarin perorating in front of the belles, he has the TCF badge, and the tricolor belt, a variant of which was used for the mountains. What remains of the forgotten feat is the weight of the Alu machine... At a time when bikes were around 15 to 20 kg, this was a revolution. Lithograph, 122x86, TBE, very slight repair at bottom. Museum piece. The roots of the Tour are there.
