Cycling/Vélodrome/Manège/Terront/Paris/La Madeleine. "Vélodrome Madeleine, Manège Terront...". This is an important poster by Albert Dagnaux (1861-1933), with the mysterious little signature Int Sp Schütz Robert... The engaging cyclist, if you take her ribbon, will lead you straight to one of the most famous velodromes of the belle époque, Terront's in La Madeleine (with two entrances, please). There were as many as twenty of these tracks with teachers in the capital, but this one was located in a prestigious district (Fbg St Honoré) and benefited from the reputation of the great champion of the time, the racing man Charles Terront. The Musée Carnavalet has the other version of this 1896 campaign. The first visitors, on discovering this beautiful cyclist in a cravat and hat, already causing traffic jams with the coachmen, found a resemblance to Madame Hidalgo. Lithograph, canvas. TBE, circa 1896. 139x94.5.
