Fencing/Saint-Germain-en-Laye/ Three pieces:a) Wood engraving by Jacobus van der Schley (1715-1779, originally J.V.Schley). Dated 1738, this astonishing work revisits the famous "official" duel between Guy Chabot de St Gelais (future 2nd Baron de Jarnac) and François de Vivonne, Seigneur de La Chataigneraie, which took place in St Germain-en-Laye on July 10, 1547. The Dutch master captures this in his cartouche, going straight to the point: "Combat de Jarnac et de La Chataigneraie dans lequel celui-ci succomba par un coup sur le Jarret...". 12x7.5, TBE.
