Olympic Games/Summer, 1924, Paris. Official... - Lot 245 - Vermot et Associés
Olympic Games/Summer, 1924, Paris. Official embroidered fabric crest of the French team: "VIII Olympiad, Paris 1924...". It's tired and a little faded, our blushing cockerel, which our 401 athletes wore during the parade on the Olympic Stadium in Colombes (see Montherlant's pages)... They were all as proud as Artaban, and 38 medals would mark these jousts, giving the cockerel 3rd place in the world!!!! A few names of prize-winners to fix ideas: Roger Ducret (5 medals in fencing), Albert Seguin (3 in gymnastics), and how could we forget Rigoulot, Deglane, Rigal, Lacoste, Cochet, Michard, Jauréguy or Stock, who could only shine once because of the constraints of their discipline. It was Bontemps, with Paul, 3rd in the 3000 steeplechase, and the immortal Géo André, who would take the oath with the same fervor as when he had won silver in the 1912 high jump. A war later, he was still flying Géo. A highly symbolic piece, for in its worn threads still quiver a hundred epics. 12X8,5. A rare item.
