Tennis/ Cassandre/ Davis Cup. 1980s reproduction... - Lot 373 - Vermot et Associés
Tennis/ Cassandre/ Davis Cup. 1980s reproduction (Studio Edit 59 rue de Ponthieu, imp Bedos) of the famous, mysterious and much-coveted Cassandre poster for the 1932 Davis Cup: "A.M.Cassandre 32, 29-31 juillet 1932, Challenge Round de la Coupe Davis...". 90x69... The famous giant ball is blank, but Roland is there... Some have claimed that the artist also wanted to pay homage to the aviator with this flying ball, but what is certain is that Adolphe-Mouron Cassandre (1901-1968) created a masterpiece. Was it a factor in the "Musketeers'" 6th victory in a row? Beauty attracts beauty. What is certain is that France beat the USA 3-2 to retain the Saladier. Borotra had won both his singles matches, and was therefore decisive, while Cochet had won one out of three (the first day's singles, lost the last day's and the doubles with Brugnon). For the record, Cassandre was born in Kharkiv of French parents. As the original poster was not available, this print gives a bit of an impression...
