REBATET (Lucien): Le diable à l'hôtel Matignon. Illustration - Lot 243
REBATET (Lucien): Le diable à l'hôtel Matignon. Illustrations by Ralph Soupault. Paris, Édition Littéraire de France, circa 1930; in-4, 30 pp. on ff. in filled cover (reinforced with adhesive). Lucien-Romain Rebatet (November 15, 1903, Moras-en-Valloire, Drôme-August 24, 1972, id.) was a French writer, journalist and music and film critic. After starting out with "Action française", he joined the fascist "Je suis partout", and in 1942, during the Occupation, published "Les Décombres", a ferocious anti-Semitic and collaborationist pamphlet. Sentenced to death at the Liberation, then pardoned, he remained in prison until 1952. He then abandoned polemics, devoting himself to his career as a writer, publishing his major work, "Les Deux Étendards", in 1951. With illustrations by Ralph Soupault. A cartoonish publication that was both anti-Semitic and anti-parliamentary.
