NASA. On October 18, 2014, a sunspot rotated... - Lot 223 - Vermot et Associés
NASA. On October 18, 2014, a sunspot rotated on the left side of the sun and rapidly grew to become the largest active region observed during the current solar cycle, which began in 2008. At present, the sunspot measures almost 80,000 miles in diameter, equivalent to ten Earths. Sunspots are relatively cooler areas of the Sun where intense and complex magnetic fields emerge from the Sun's surface. These zones can be the source of solar eruptions such as flares or coronal mass ejections. So far, this active region has produced several major solar flares: an X-class flare on October 19, an M-class flare on October 21 and an X-class flare on October 22, 2014. The largest sunspot ever recorded occurred in 1947 and was almost three times larger than the spot in the photograph. 2014.period chromogenic print. Legend on label on back. 20.4 x 25.5CM with margins.
