Maxime DU CAMP (1822-1894, Académie française writer and photographer, friend of Flaubert and Baudelaire) / Autograph letter signed, 2 p in-8, April 30, 1884, to a correspondent who told him about his "Chants modernes" of 30 years ago, "It's been a long time since I wrote verses, at least for the public. I used to do them with deplorable ease, which is too obvious from the carelessness and sluggishness of the workmanship", "I had wanted to make people understand the spiritualist results of material works, but I didn't succeed. I concluded that verse was not a tool for my hand and I abandoned it".
