NASA. Rare. The first historic zenithal photograph of the Martian soil, taken by the MARINER 4 space probe on July 15, 1965. Until the arrival of the MARINER 4 space probe, scientists thought they might discover vegetation on the Martian soil, but this was definitively contradicted by the reception of images from the 1st flyby of the planet MARS by a human space probe.
