NASA. Saturn's rings shine under infrared light from the Webb telescope. The planet appears extremely dark at this wavelength, as the methane gas in its atmosphere absorbs sunlight, but its rings remain brilliant. Saturn's rings are made up of an array of rocky and icy fragments - the particles vary in size from a grain of sand to those as large as mountains on Earth. There are three tiny dots in the image - one at the top left of the planet, one to the direct left of the planet and the bottom left of the planet. These are three of Saturn's moons: Dione, Enceladus and Tethys. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin on the front. Legend on label on back. 20.4 x 25.4CM with margins.
