UHRICH Jean-Jacques-Alexis (1802-1886) - General, Defender of STRASBOURG in 1870 - Autograph Letter Signed from BASEL (SWITZERLAND), October 19, 1870, as a PRISONER OF WAR ON PAROLE, on his letterhead "Général Commandant la 6° D.M.". 2 pages in-8°: "Mon cher Général, Je vous remercie ... for keeping my son in Algiers. Being kept prisoner on parole, I have come to settle in Switzerland to spend the first moments of my exile there; but this is only temporary and it is possible that I will decide to go and spend the winter in Algiers, with my wife. I kissed my son for the last time, two days before the terrible battle of FROESCHWILLER, and I'm thirsty to see this brave child again, who had the good fortune to escape all the dangers...". + some press clippings.
