Manufacture in Göggingen, Germany, 1748-1752 Rare oval earthenware dish, decorated with a grand feu blue-painted design. In the center, a winged dragon is set against a richly decorated background of shells, foliage and scrolls. A frieze of flowering shells surrounds the central composition and is repeated on the raised molded border. Marked on the reverse in blue underglaze Göggingen. Length: 47.8 cm, width: 32.7 cm. Firing defects and glaze chips. Bibliographical references: A circular dish from Göggingen, in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, bearing a coat of arms, has a similar border with a shell and foliage motif.
