END OF THE EMPIRE. General CURIAL (Philibert Jean Baptiste F - Lot 436
END OF THE EMPIRE. General CURIAL (Philibert Jean Baptiste François) General 1807, Count of the Empire 1814, Commander of the 3rd Division of the Imperial Guard in Russia 1812. (Savoie 1774 - 1829) - Letter A.S. "CURIAL" the day after the fall of the Empire, PARIS May 12, 1814, to General PELET. Relating to the fate of the Imperial Guard under King XVIII. 1p in-folio. Small crack in restored fold: "Mon Cher Général. I have very much approved your Address to the King and have sent it to His Majesty. There is nothing yet pronounced on our fate, but it seems... that we will take the denomination of GRENADIERS DE FRANCE, without continuing to belong to LA GARDE... LA GARDE has here many partisans and even more enemies; the intriguers... create faults for us even in Paris from where the detachments, come for the triumphal entry of the King (Louis XVIII), left several days ago. Their Highnesses Monsieur and the Duc de BERRY have treated them well; I even think they will protect us. The latter in particular is all military; he will consequently be more disposed than anyone else to be useful to the Army Veterans. We're now busy organizing the troops, but nothing has been decided yet. It can't be delayed any longer, however, because the King doesn't want it to be delayed any longer. Tonight something will be decided on the strength of the Army. My affectionate greetings".
