In the preface, we read: "They (the méharistes) will find in it elements for studying and understanding the 'slobbering', everyday companion, and will enable them to free themselves from the rapidly wearying tutelage of the ever slightly mocking 'old man'. This study should not lead us to believe that we are backward-looking and swear by the camel. The tool of our heart to live and preserve the Sahara would be an elite corps, a sort of Saharan Legion...Méharistes of course, but also well-adapted vehicles, light and heavy helicopters, medium- and long-range observation planes. All these means being Saharan, voluntary, dressed in a special uniform, and proud to wear it". Important and rare document.
