Cycling / Velocipede / Politics
Set of 5 original engravings showing the velocipede fitting in more or less well with everyday life in the hectic years at the end of the Second Empire (1867-1871):
- Issue of "Le Bouffon" dated October 25, 1868 (complete), with a full-page color print (27x36): "Evangile du jour : L'homme est venu du singe pour s'en retourner en colimaçon", by Edward Ancourt (1841-?)
- 2 color lithographs: "Le Généralissime et son état major" (D'Aumale, Joinville, Philippe II, Nemours), on velocipedes, meet the barricade and the red flag of the Commune, March 29, 1871. Deforêt et César, booksellers-publishers. Imp. Talons. Small side tears, 24x31 / "Courses du printemps 1871", Lithographie Caillot, 26,4x40
- 2 woodcuts, one by Cham (1818-1879), the other by Paul Hadol (1835-1875), probably published in "Le Charivari", testify to the breakthrough of the velocipede in all strata of society in the years 1867-68 (28x24)
