Cycling / Rouxel / Buffalo / Ogé / Suresnes - Lot 52
Cycling / Rouxel / Buffalo / Ogé / Suresnes "Cycles Rouxel, Usines et bureaux, 5 bd de Versailles, Suresnes". Original canvas poster, rare proof from the Verneau printing house, before the definitive edition. Circa 1897 117 x 79 cm (minor repairs, folds but overall good condition) The final poster is almost here. The sprint between the four riders is launched on the bend, but soon turns into a duel; look at the glances between the two frontrunners, the big puddles, the tip-toes (forerunners of the toe-clip). As the colors were laid down, you can have fun recognizing the champions sketched by the subtle Eugène Ogé (1861-1936). At the time, Suresnes was a capital of velocipedics, thanks to its proximity to the three major velodromes in western Paris (Buffalo, the Seine and the Parc des Princes). Major races started or passed through the area, and champions such as Huret, Rivierre and Dubois were regulars.
