Official Diploma of the Antwerp Games
50 x 65.5 cm (framed -68 x 81)
1350 copies produced
Awarded to boxer Jean-Baptiste Rampignon, 5th in the Flyweight Olympic Tournament.
Victory crowning a naked athlete, with a view of Antwerp, superb antique-style lithograph in ochre, printed by Ets Jean Malvaux and imprimerie J-E Goossens of Brussels.
Cartouche: "VII Olympiad, Antwerp 1920".
For the Limousin pugilist, this diploma is a consecration, at just 20 years of age. A fine career seemed to be opening up before him, but in 1923 he fought Gleizes in a 15-round bout for the title of French flyweight champion. He lost on points, and the young Rampignon died the next day.
A moving piece of Olympic, boxing and Limousin sports history.
