Nasa. RARE LARGE FORMAT. An impressive photographic display - Lot 295
Nasa. RARE LARGE FORMAT. An impressive photographic display of the Linnaeus lunar crater to help scientists investigate the origin of its formation. Despite appearances, this is not a large crater, but a small one located in the Sea of Serenity, some tens of millions of years old. Its shape is almost perfect and, like many craters on the moon, it has the appearance of a bowl. Its diameter is 2.4 kilometers. Nevertheless, it was the most famous crater of the 19th century because of the surrounding white halo formed by its walls. German astronomer Johann Friedrich Schmidt announced to the world that the crater had disappeared, replaced by a white dot. It was news that caused a sensation at the time. 2012.period chromogenic print. Numbering on front. Legend on back label. 50.8 x 101.6cm with margins.
