NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Here, the James Webb Telescope reveals a - Lot 345
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Here, the James Webb Telescope reveals a young star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud (one of our satellite galaxies), where astronomers have discovered candidates for the first brown dwarfs outside our galaxy. This star cluster presents an environment similar to the star-forming regions that would have existed in the primordial Universe, with very low quantities of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. It is radically different from our own solar neighborhood, and close enough to be studied in detail. Brown dwarfs are not quite stars, but not quite gas-giant planets either. Their mass generally ranges from 13 to 75 times that of Jupiter. They are sometimes buoyant, and are not gravitationally bound to a star as a planet would be. However, they share certain characteristics with exoplanets, such as storm patterns and atmospheric composition. Numbering in the margin and references in the plate on the front. Legend on back label. 40.6 x 40.6 cm with margins.
