NASA. LARGE FORMAT. James Webb Telescope. This galaxy, with - Lot 347
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. James Webb Telescope. This galaxy, with its highly active black hole, is one of the brightest spiral galaxies and the closest to our own. Its central region is illuminated by its black hole, which actively engulfs dust and gas, heating them up and generating powerful radiation. This spiral galaxy has a secret: two additional arms (shown here in green) composed of hot gas, rather than stars. Similar to a wave crashing against a rock before reaching the shore, they probably result from the violent mixing of gas around the black hole. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin and references in the plate on the front. Legend on label on back. 60.9 x 50.8 cm with margins.
