The two galaxies form a cosmic embrace, united by a blue haze of stars and gas. We are shaped by our nearest and dearest, and this pair is no exception. These galaxies have been merging for tens of millions of years and will eventually become one. In fact, only about 100,000 light-years separate the Penguin and the Egg (by way of comparison, our own Milky Way and its neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy, are about 2.5 million light-years apart!)
