NASA. VERY LARGE FORMAT. This is the largest photomosaic eve - Lot 352
NASA. VERY LARGE FORMAT. This is the largest photomosaic ever assembled from Hubble Space Telescope observations over several years, starting in 2010. It is a panoramic view of the neighboring Andromeda galaxy, 2.5 million light-years away. It took over 10 years to create this vast, colorful portrait of the galaxy, requiring more than 600 Hubble snapshots superimposed on each other, which were difficult to assemble. The galaxy is so close to us that, in angular size, it represents six times the apparent diameter of the full Moon, and is visible to the naked eye. For Hubble's precise view, this represents a considerable celestial surface. This magnificent, colorful mosaic captures the glow of 200 million stars - just a fraction of Andromeda's population. And the stars are spread over some 2.5 billion pixels. Detailed observation of the resolved stars will help astronomers to reconstruct the galaxy's past history, including its mergers with smaller satellite galaxies. Vintage chromogenic print. Label on back. 50 x 130CM.
