POLAND. Edmond du MOTIER de LA FAYETTE, Deputy for Haute-Loire in 1848, then Senator in 1876 (Château de La Grange Bléneau à Courpalay 1818 - Paris 1890) Grandson of General de La FAYETTE - Letter signed on the letterhead of the FRANCO-POLONAIS Central Committee, Paris August 29, 1864. Flag vignette "Warsaw Nov. 29, 1830, Krakow Feb. 22, 1846, Warsaw Jan. 15, 1863" following the January 1863 insurrection. He acknowledges receipt of 6 francs for the Franco-Polish committee. "Never has a nobler cause deserved the sympathies of our country. Let us persevere in our efforts and try, according to our means, to bring help and support to the heroic defenders of Poland." 1 page in-8°. (The first Polish aid committees to appear in France were initially aimed at supporting the Warsaw insurgents.
