Georges SAND Monument. Letter signed Camille DOUCET (Poet an - Lot 650
Georges SAND Monument. Letter signed Camille DOUCET (Poet and Playwright, Perpetual Secretary of the Académie Française), on the letterhead of the Institut de France. TROUVILLE July 23, 1884. 3 pages in-8°: "Mon Cher Ami... I had understood that you would be in Paris on Wednesday, as I was. I therefore intended to go and see you tomorrow morning. Which is no longer necessary. I still need to have a little chat with you before Friday's Commission. Georges SAND Monument. I'll be at the Conservatoire at 9 3/4 for the declamation competition. If you're free and early, please come and see me there. Or at 1 a.m. during the lunch interval. We'll have lunch at Ambroise THOMAS's; but, before returning to the meeting, we could have a chat. Yours Camille DOUCET. Please check. I remember that when Madame SAND died (in 1876), the commission was not invited. On purpose. It was even requested that no one speak on her behalf. The family had requested that Alexandre DUMAS speak alone."
