French school of the 19th century. - Lot 1
French school of the 19th century. The Wooden Gallery at the Palais-Royal, 1828. Original enhanced lithograph, mounted on card. 19.8 x 37.5 cm. Framed under glass. Extremely rare depiction of the Palais-Royal shops in the wooden gallery (former Tartar camp): on the left, the Dentu bookshop, in the center, the Polantru-Curtet store (table). Polantru-Curtet (table maker), on the right Madame Melcio (fashion and novelties). In the window, the bookseller advertises the sale of Mémoires de Vidocq, published in 1828. The gallery was demolished the same year to create a new covered passageway, the Galerie d'Orléans. The Paul Prouté gallery attributes a similar engraving to Theodor Hoffbauer (1839-1922).
