India, 20th century Elegant pair of carved blackened wood saddles, depicting a Hindu deity riding a fantastic chimera, accompanied by an elephant supporting a circular tray. Each piece rests on a rectangular base mounted on four claw-shaped legs. Height: 88 cm An accident on one of the legs of a sellette; old restorations Provenance: Acquired by a former military officer stationed at the Comptoir Commercial Français in Pondicherry, then passed down through family descent in France in the 1950s.
