LUNAR ORBITER PROGRAM Set of two photographic prints and a poster: - VERY FIRST VIEW of the Earth from the vicinity of the Moon (part of the far side in the foreground). Black and white print no. L-66-7861 (20 x 25cm). Captioned on the back NASA Langley Research Center. Enclosed is a 38 x 44 cm poster (either Boeing or NASA) explaining how the historic photo was taken, on August 23, 1966, during the 16th lunar orbit. - VERY FIRST VIEW of an object in lunar orbit: Lunar Orbiter 5 seen from a telescope at the Catalina Observatory. Black and white Boeing print no. P42674 (20 x 25 cm), taken on July 28, 68. Lunar Orbiter 5 completely photographed the far side of the moon. The mission ended with an impact on the moon on January 31, 1968. 5 Lunar Orbiter probes were launched between August 10, 1966 and August 1, 1967, to identify possible landing sites for future Apollo missions. Orbiters I to III were designed to provide images of 20 potential landing sites, and flew in low-tilt orbits.
