Captioned black-and-white poster of the very first view of the Earth taken from the moon by Lunar Orbiter 1. The East Coast of the USA is in the middle of the illuminated crescent, the South Pole on the left, and Europe in the hemisphere plunged into darkness. Taken on August 23, 1966.

5 Lunar Orbiter probes were launched between August 10, 1966 and August 1, 1967, to identify possible landing sites for future Apollo missions. Orbiters I to III were designed to provide images of 20 potential landing sites, and flew in low-tilt orbits.
