APOLLO MISSIONS (1967-1972) - APOLLO 17 (December 7-19, 1972) Magnificent print of the "Blue Marble", a photograph of the Earth seen from space taken by the astronauts of the Apollo 17 mission. Vintage NASA color print (20 x 25.5cm) captioned on the back, bearing the number AS17-148-22727, December 1972. Released by NASA on Christmas Eve, exactly four years after Apollo 8's Earthrise, this image is known as the "Blue Marble" and remains one of the most iconic photographs in space history. Photograph taken by astronaut Ron Evans. Africa, Madagascar, the Arabian Peninsula and the South Pole are clearly visible.
