RUSSIA - Lot 371
RUSSIA 2 very small samples of the thermal protection of the Russian space shuttle Burane, which flew once, unmanned, on November 15 1988. These 2 samples (5mm and 1 cm) are made of high-purity quartz fibrous ceramic capable of withstanding temperatures in excess of 1500°. Included: 2 Buran shuttle pins, 3.5cm long. CCCP inscription on one of them. Buran was a Soviet reusable spacecraft program in response to the American space shuttles, but the political situation in the USSR and the excessive cost of the project soon put an end to the program.
