FRANCE / Ariane 1 Piece of thermal insulation from the last stage of Ariane 1. 11.5 x 8.5 x 5 cm. The first Ariane 1 rocket took to the skies on December 24, 1979. Since then, the Ariane family has grown steadily in size and reliability, from Ariane 1 to today's Ariane 6.
