BELGIUM - "Les Races Humaines" / JACQUES chocolate album, 19 - Lot 306
BELGIUM - "Les Races Humaines" / JACQUES chocolate album, 1947, 16 p in soft cover, folio format (24.5 x 31.5 cm, used condition handled), bilingual French-Flemish, complete with 144 glued vignettes, each representing a "race" figure, with a caption situating the individual geographically, giving colonial details (for example, the Canaque is presented as "a native of Oceania, many of whom are half-civilized", "the Canaques of central Australia, cruel, warlike, are still anthropophagous"), while in Europe there are Breton, Basque, Swiss-Alpine and Auvergne races... An introductory text sets the tone: "Belgium is marching resolutely towards a better future, one that will make people forget the hardships of war and the disillusions of the immediate post-war period. Little by little, everything will return to normal, and we can hope that by 1947, chocolate rationing will be a thing of the past".
