Pierre Charles LAURENT DE VILLEDEUIL [Bouchain 1742 - Paris 1828] Comptroller General of Finances. (May/September 1787), he was the last Secretary of State of the King's Household on July 25, 1788, and State Councillor on August 30, 1788 - Opposed to the convening of the Estates-General, he emigrated to England in July 1789. He returned to France in 1792 to prepare a new flight for the King after the failure of Varennes. He emigrated again and returned to France at the Restoration - Letter signed DE VILLEDEUIL", in VERSAILLES (78), June 30, 1787, to M. AMELOT, Intendant de BOURGOGNE. - 1p folio - "... You have informed me of a stroke of courage by two individuals from CHÂLONS-SUR-SAÔNE (71) who saved the life of a young girl.
