AUDE. "EMPRUNT FORCÉ de l'An IV". (Burning of the ASSIGNATS.): "Law of 3 Nivôse An 4." (December 24, 1795). "The Council of Elders, after declaring the emergency, takes the following resolution: 1°) "All Assignats coming from the Forced Borrowing will be crossed out by the Collectors, in the presence of the lenders, cancelled by the Receivers, burned in Paris, in the same form as those coming from the sale of national property serving as pledges for the Assignats.... 2°) Assignats on the basis of one hundred capitals for one, are admitted in payment of the Forced Loan, in the Department of the Seine, only until the 15th of the current month of Nivôse; in the other Departments, until the 30th of the same month inclusive...".
