Lieutenant Guyot (1859-1927) left the army in 1906, but returned to it in the Great War, where as battalion commander of the 72nd infantry, he covered himself in glory at Verdun, and in the battle of the forts; with a broken jaw, he was discharged in September 1918. His adventures and explorations in southern Algeria, his mission in Colombia (where he founded the La Paz Cavalry School), and other operations would merit a major book. Officier de la Légion d'honneur, croix de guerre avec deux palmes, this extraordinary cyclotourist is a credit to the town of Montélimar.
