Cycling / Tour / Cornet / Gabory / Heroic times Two handwrit - Lot 26
Cycling / Tour / Cornet / Gabory / Heroic times Two handwritten cards, written and signed by two champions at the heart of the Tour, Julien Gabory (Tour 1904) and Henri Cornet (1884-1941): a) Card sent from Lyon, the end of the 1st stage of the Tour 1904 by Julien Gabory, to President Rivière of the Cycle Amical de la Sorbonne. Julien arrived 12th in Lyon because he fell on a dog in Montargis and lost 1 hour (sic). A unique testimony at the heart of the race. In Lyon, after that famous hour, he finished 2h25 behind Garin. He was 12th again on stage 2 (1h25 behind Aucouturier), 19th on stage 3 at 6am, 10th on stage 4, and 9th on stage 5 arriving in Nantes. He then retired. Bib 52 will therefore not be among those downgraded in December for cheating. Julien was a fine rider, 9th in the 1905 Tour and 13th in the 1911 Paris-Brest, with the Touristes-Routiers b) Handwritten card sent by Henri Cornet to M. Rivière from Cannes, where he was reconnoitring the Tour with Louis Trousselier. This card is perhaps from 1910 or 1911, and bears witness, yes, to the reconnaissance and preparation of champions such as Cornet (double signature), who won the 1904 Tour, and even Trousselier, who won the 1905 Tour. Two historic cards.
