Cycling / Vel'd'Hiv / Six jours / Géo Ham / Paris. Another f - Lot 74
Cycling / Vel'd'Hiv / Six jours / Géo Ham / Paris. Another fabulous work on the Vel'd'Hiv and the Six jours, this bird's-eye view by the great Géo Ham (1900-1972) of the blond track...The whole atmosphere is there: the knife-edge smoke, the pissy lighting, the blond track, the tilted caps of the popular riders, and at the bottom, at the very bottom, the colorful racers bursting out like pinballs.Soon, there will be a clash, a fall, a tilt, a contentious bonus, and the populars' kicks on the floor will redouble.Berretrot will no longer be heard, trying to justify the unjustifiable "The bonus is not for ..." Suitcases, programs, sandwiches or chamber pots will be flying around the track... And then, it's off again... Little Max Urbini is in the far bend, and he repeats in chorus, one of the saws of the secular cathedral: "all that glitters is not gold, but to glitter Jantes Record..." That was the Six Days. Canvas print from "L'Illustration", 1932 (26x38). To be combined with the previous one to make a dyptic.
