Cycling / Tour de France / Lanterne rouge / Devilly / Chauss - Lot 129
Cycling / Tour de France / Lanterne rouge / Devilly / Chaussabel/ Anquetil Lot of 4 pieces, including 3 on the "Giants of the road": a) 1910 postcard, with double signature of Georges Devilly (1882-1920), who was a heroic lanterne rouge in the 1909 Tour flown over by Faber b) Bristol pense-bête recto-verso prepared by Roger Chaussabel (1932-2023) for the "Planète Cyclisme" program. Roger, the red lantern of the 1956 Tour (he belonged to the Sud-Est team, bib 81), finished his first Tour in 88th and last place. He was a fine rider who finished his other two Tours, and also won stages in the Tour de Tunisie and the "Midi Libre". Roger, a magnificent Marseillais, writes here, "I don't ride, I don't climb, I don't sprint, so I'm a Tour man". In the days of the Criteriums (1950-90), the position of red lantern was highly coveted, as the last man standing was bound to be on the bill. Roger adds: "The Tour was going to introduce me to another 'world', to be considered" c) Press photo (12.5x18), Tour 1973, Jacques Hochart, 87th and last. He belongs to Myriam de Kova's short-lived pink team, and Gem d) Very curious article "Pitié pour la Lanterne rouge" ("Pity for the Red Lantern") by Jacques Anquetil, published in "Les Nouvelles Littéraires" on July 3, 1980.
